Blank Display Screen on JTECH CMS App
Display shows loading message but then remains blank (no content displayed) after selecting a screen.
Symptoms
- Display connects successfully
- Screen name appears correctly (e.g., Greenfield)
- Content shows as “downloading”
- After loading, the screen becomes blank
- No error message is displayed
- Returning back shows login screen again
Root Cause
The playlists assigned to the screen are scheduled only for specific days and times. Outside of those scheduled windows, no content is available, so the display shows a blank screen.
How to Confirm the Issue
Step 1 – Check Playlist Scheduling
- Log into The JTECH CMS Studio
- Open the screen (e.g., JTECH-Specials)
- Review assigned playlists
- Check:
- Days (Monday, Tuesday, etc.)
- Time ranges (Lunch, Dinner, etc.)
If all playlists are time-restricted → this is the issue
Step 2 – Validate by Creating a Test Playlist
Create a playlist with:
- No day restriction
- No time restriction
Example:
Name: Everyday_All_Day_Playlist
Assign it to the screen and publish.
Step 3 – Refresh Display
- Wait ~2–3 minutes for sync
- If content still not showing, restart the app or device
If content now displays → issue confirmed
Resolution
Option 1 (Recommended)
Create a default playlist that:
- Runs all day
- Has no scheduling restrictions
This ensures the display always has content.
Option 2
Add more playlists to cover:
- All days
- All time ranges
Best Practice
Always include: At least one playlist without scheduling restrictions. This acts as a fallback when no scheduled content is active.
Example Scenario
Screen has the following:
- Tuesday Lunch
- Tuesday Dinner
- Wednesday Lunch
- Wednesday Dinner
No content outside those windows. Result: Blank screen. By adding Everyday_All_Day_Playlist the problem was fixed immediately.
Important Notes
- This is not a device issue
- This is not a connectivity issue
- This is not an installation issue
It is purely content scheduling behavior
When to Escalate
- Playlist has no restrictions AND still blank
- Content does not sync after 5+ minutes
- Device fails to connect/login
